Enabling Ability, Promoting Inclusion

Persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) in rural areas especially in tribal areas often encounter barriers to education and employment. This program promotes equal opportunity by facilitating access to skill development, livelihood training and supportive guidance for their capacities.

In the tribal belts surrounding Udaipur city and across Udaipur district, persons with disabilities often remain excluded from mainstream development due to lack of awareness, accessibility challenges and limited institutional support. Many individuals are unable to access education, skill training or employment opportunities despite their capabilities.

Jivan Adhar Sansthan has initiated the Divyangjan Empowerment Program to ensure that individuals with disabilities are not left behind. The program focuses on inclusion, capacity building and creating pathways toward self-reliance.

Understanding the Challenges Faced by Divyangjan

Field engagement in tribal areas has identified several challenges:

  • Limited access to inclusive education facilities.

  • Lack of awareness about skill development opportunities.

  • Social stigma and reduced community participation.

  • Difficulty in accessing employment or livelihood opportunities.

  • Absence of structured guidance and support systems.

These barriers restrict the potential of Divyangjan and often lead to long-term dependency.

Objectives of the Program

The Divyangjan Empowerment Program is designed with the following objectives:

  • To promote equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.

  • To enhance access to skill development and livelihood training.

  • To encourage social inclusion and participation.

  • To support confidence building and self-reliance.

  • To create awareness about rights and opportunities available to Divyangjan.

The program focuses on ability-oriented development rather than limitation-based perception.

Key Components of the Program

Inclusive Skill Development Support

The organization facilitates access to skill training programs tailored to the abilities of Divyangjan. Efforts are made to identify suitable skills that align with individual capacities and local livelihood opportunities.

Training is designed to be practical, adaptable and supportive.

Livelihood and Employment Guidance

Guidance is provided to help individuals explore employment or self-employment opportunities based on their strengths.

The program encourages:

  • Participation in suitable income-generating activities.

  • Linkages with local opportunities wherever possible.

  • Confidence in independent work capabilities.

The focus remains on enabling financial independence.

Awareness and Social Inclusion

Awareness sessions are conducted in communities to reduce stigma and promote acceptance. Families and community members are encouraged to support Divyangjan as active contributors rather than dependents.

This helps create a more inclusive and supportive social environment.

Individual Support and Mentorship

Personalized guidance and motivation play a key role in empowering individuals. The organization provides supportive interaction to:

  • Build self-confidence

  • Encourage participation in activities

  • Help individuals recognize their potential

This approach strengthens both emotional and social well-being.

Linkage with Welfare Schemes

The program also creates awareness about government schemes and support systems available for persons with disabilities.

Guidance is provided to help individuals understand and access available benefits, enhancing their security and opportunities.
